Afshan is the Founder and Director at Not Bad Films, a Mumbai-based production company. Founded 2 years back. Former director at Good Morning Films before establishing her own banner.
Her professional journey began assisting acclaimed directors such as Bruno Aveillan (QUAD – Paris) and Kunal Kapoor (Adfilmvalas, Mumbai).
Afshan rose to prominence as a Director for her work with Cornetto, Coca-Cola, Coke-Zero Amazon, Nestle , Oppo etc. Most notably, one of Afshan's early pieces of work for Rio Pads, titled Khoon helped to settle a landmark court case in the advertising industry regarding the depiction of blood in female sanitary product commercials. Prior to the film, it was the norm to display 'blue liquid' on Indian television and Afshan was on the forefront of making that change to depict 'blood' and not to shy away from it.
She is the first female director to direct action commercials for Bajaj Pulsar motorbike, which she has done for the last 3 years. In addition to that, her film for Nanhi Kali titled The Tale of 2 Lajjos, Multiple films for Savlon has also won her a large number of accolades both nationally and internationally right from Cannes, D&AD, Spikes, Kyoorius Awards.
Coming from a creatively esteemed lineage, she is part of the family of international music legend Padma Bhushan Zakir Hussain and Ustad Allah Rakha.
Through the years, she has perfected her style of weaving a narrative seamlessly with her distinct visual aesthetics.
