Managing Director, Good Oil

After gaining a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Religious Studies, George Mackenzie turned his back on theology and answered an even higher calling. Thus began a twenty-five-year vocation in the advertising industry.

Baptised at Silverscreen Auckland, Mackenzie developed a passion for editing and post-production, which led to a producing role at VTR London. In 1999, he returned to Sydney to manage Oktobor.

Throughout the 2000s, George worked at some of Australia's best-known post-production and film companies, including The LaB Sydney, where he served as General Manager, Independent Films as General Manager, and Fin Design + Effects as Executive Producer.

George later became Regional Managing Director at The Sweet Shop, overseeing the Asia Pacific and MENA regions. He returned to Auckland in 2011. That same year, he collected an AXIS Award for Best Production Company before moving to Robber's Dog in 2012. In 2018, he joined Good Oil.

His work has been recognised at prestigious international award shows including ADFEST, Cannes Lions, D&AD Awards, The One Show, Spikes Asia, AWARD Awards and AXIS Awards. He has served on the juries of LIA, Spikes, AWARD and AXIS across both craft and film categories, and was appointed Craft Jury President at ADFEST in 2012. He currently serves on the AXIS Executive Committee and was the 2026 AXIS Craft Jury President.
