Hoji Tsuchiya is an independent animation director based in Tokyo, specializing in handcrafted paper-cut animation.

Born in 1984, he began his career creating short films and music videos. His work Black Long Skirt (2010) was nominated at the Ottawa International Animation Festival, and he won Best Music Video at Anifilm 2017 for Uri Nakayama’s “Spring Time - Old Man”.

His animation for the Pocari Sweat web commercial "The Scuffing Song" received major international acclaim, including Gold Pencil at The One Show 2024, Yellow Pencil at D&AD 2024, and Gold at CICLOPE Awards 2023.

He continues to produce distinctive works for music videos, children’s programs, and commercial projects.
